This tool is general information for families and students. It is not a screening or diagnostic tool, does not give individual advice, and is not a substitute for an assessment by a registered speech-language pathologist. Default fees are estimates of typical Ontario private rates, not a price list for any clinic. If you are worried about your child's communication, Ontario families can self-refer to their local Preschool Speech and Language Program at no cost.

Frequently asked questions

Does OHIP cover speech therapy?
OHIP does not pay for private speech-language pathology. Publicly funded services are available through the Preschool Speech and Language Program, school boards, Children's Treatment Centres and hospitals at no charge.
What do extended health plans usually cover?
Many employer plans list speech-language pathology under paramedical services with an annual maximum per person, often somewhere between a few hundred dollars and a couple of thousand, and sometimes a per-visit cap. Check your booklet for the exact figures and whether a doctor's note is needed.
Can I claim speech therapy on my taxes?
Fees paid to a speech-language pathologist are eligible medical expenses for the federal medical expense tax credit when the practitioner is authorized in your province, which registered SLPs are in Ontario. The credit applies to expenses above a threshold tied to your net income, so the benefit varies.
Where do the default prices come from?
They are typical ranges observed across Ontario private practices in 2026 and are estimates, not published rates. Replace them with real quotes from the clinic you are considering.
